foot positioning on a surfboard

Great thank you. That clears up alot. I have been doing that and does seem to give more control

You want your foot pretty square when you are doing a bottom turn – snap combo. If you foot is pointing forward too much you will have limited control. Squarer is better for tighter turns. If you had heaps of speed and were carving more through the turn, you could get away with your foot pointing forwards more.

In regaurds to the last question- during a bottom turn to snap (backside) is it better to have your front foot square (toes and heel pointing toward rails)?

Hi Seth,
Foot positioning on your backside should move, say if you are going for a barrel you might point your toes more towards the nose so you can rotate your body to face forwards.
when you are doing top turns and doing more vertical turns on a wave your foot should be more square (toes and heel pointing towards the rail), you will have more control for quick turns when you are in this position.
Enjoy

What is the best foot position while surfing backside? I’ve started placing my front foot with toes and heel facing the rails. It seems to make the board more responsive for turns, etc. But it is hard to get my foot in that position when I pop up. Any advise. What is a good foot position for backside? Etc…..
